Happy Daddy's Day Memories...

Daddy, in his uniform, holding my niece,
who is  39, now.
I remember sitting in Daddy's lap and playing with his tire gauge.  I wish I could find it. I remember those maps, in their little wire racks, and the peanuts and gum machine, too.

Daddy owned, or worked, at Mobil Stations, during much of my growing up years, back when you had full service...Gee, wouldn't that be nice.  Joshua made this memory box from scraps of wood.

An old rusty tin with the cloth still in it.
Josh made the box and painted the sign, weathering it just right.

I added the decorations and memories....
The horse has great graphics, plus holds memories for me.

Once Daddy told me a story about his friend, who was a steel worker in Dallas. After his friend and the others installed the Mobil horse on the skyscraper, one of them got on and rode it for a twirl. Those guys were men of steel, for sure.
One of my button bouquets and scrabble pieces.

Daddy was 50 when I was born, so he would be 100, if he were still with us.

Happy Father's Day to all the Daddies...
Lezlee

We are still having a party~ so hop on over!

Right now, I am playing show and tell over at My Romantic Home, Holiday Haven and Tickled Pink.

  3. Hi Prior!

What a wonderful collection of family history and a great tribute to your dad! My grandpa retired from a Mobil Refinery . Worked there after WW2 until early 1980's. So Mobil gas stations were the ones we used.

  6. Wow! If they would have had YouTube back then, I'll bet that skyscraping saddler would have been featured right on it. That must have been a sight to see! What an interesting post. Your dad would be touched.

I hope you can find his tire gauge sometime!
If your dad was 50, how old was your mom?
    And is she still here?

  18. What a perfect way to honor your daddy. Love your memory box and all the thought that went into it.
Would have loved to have met him and the cowboy who rode Pegasus! Those are real men!
Yes...I do miss full service. I'd gladly pay the extra money to have someone come out and tip their hat to me and say "Check under the hood for you?". I miss the attention to service that is so lacking in our society today.

P.S. Sounds like your Josh is a might fine man himself!

  20. What a wonderful tribute. My Dad is still with us, I am blessed. He owned a Skelly gas station back in the full service days. I used to love going to the station. He'd give me quarters and let me wash out the car wash floor. Oh the memories!
